Personal project | First-person | Unreal Engine
Capieland is a first-person action-adventure game built in Unreal Engine, where I worked as a developer. It combines open-world exploration with melee combat against groups of enemies, supported by a compass with objective markers, health and stamina resources, and level, experience and gold progression.
This page focuses on the enemy AI I developed for the game.
I built a ranged enemy that keeps its distance. Instead of rushing the player, it looks for a spot where it can attack without getting too close, moves into position and attacks from there.
Its decisions run on a behavior tree, and Unreal's Environment Query System (EQS) picks the best attack position around the player.
The enemy also respects line of sight: when the player hides behind cover such as a tree, it loses sight of them and cannot target them until they are visible again.
